Ang Tumingin at ang Tinitingnan sa Museo
During Museum and Galleries Month, I revisited the three National Museums in Manila. I had photographed these spaces before, but my previous attempts felt like they were missing something: the human element.
This time, I looked for visitors so absorbed by a piece that everything else seemed to fade away. I sought consistency in the compositions, positioning each person parallel to the artwork or exhibit, often rendered in slight silhouette.
The series explores the relationship between the tumingin and the tinitingnan—the one who looks and the one being looked at. Beyond preserving art and history, a museum comes alive through these encounters. Its collections may hold stories of the past, but it is through the attention, curiosity, and presence of its visitors that those stories continue to live.
